Vladivostok airport ranks among top 5 airports of Russia

Vladivostok International Airport (JSC “VIA”) became one of leaders among Russian airports in terms of infrastructure and level of passenger services according to a rating list published by “AviaPort” agency. Other airports in the top 5 are airports of Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Sochi.

Every company included in the rating was given by third party experts a symbolical scoring in “stars” similarly to the star-based Skytrax classification system. JSC “VIA” received 4 “stars” which means a “high level of comfort” characterized by such parameters as new spacious terminals, no queues, sufficient package of associated services, etc.

This study was based on the method of a formalized quality assessment of the passenger infrastructure and services in the form of an expert judgment list describing “secret passenger” experiences at all stages: from transfer between airport terminals to use of the Internet; from check-in to boarding the airplane; from baggage claim to search for a stop of public transport services. Every item was pre-assigned a particular weight depending on expert evaluation of its importance in the integral rating.

The main evaluation criteria were both traditional ones such as “no barrier environment”, “convenience of baggage claim”, “duration and comfort of preflight inspection” and non-traditional ones, e.g., “noise pollution”, “availability and accessibility of outlets for mobile device charging”, etc.

- The results of Russia’s first comprehensive industry-level study present an objective picture of the current condition of infrastructure and management level in Russian airports, said Igor Lukishin, JSC “VIA” general director. – We are happy that work of Vladivostok airport personnel and of all state-run and commercial organizations directly involved in services to our passengers has been praised so highly.

Altogether, experts had selected 20 Russian airports for this study based on passenger flow figures (at least half a million passengers per annum). “AviaPort” agency borrowed the concept of expert judgment from British company Skytrax. Moscow airports Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo were not considered in this study due to the size of their passenger flow and supporting infrastructure.

It should be noted that JSC “VIA” plays a key role in the region’s air transport system. Its strategic goal by 2017 is to join the Asia Pacific’s ten best airports in terms of passenger service quality.
