VIA shows a 14% rise in passenger traffic in 2011

In 2011 Vladivostok International Airport handled 1.457 million passengers, a 14% rise over 2010.

In 2011 Vladivostok International Airport handled 1.457 million passengers, a 14% rise over 2010. Domestic traffic showed an 8% rise with 1. 130 million passengers while international traffic reached a 39% growth with 327 thousand passengers. 6093 flights or over 12 thousand take-offs and landings were provided in 2011, a 12% increase compared to 2010.

Moscow, Seoul, Uzhno-Sakhalinsk, Beijing and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski were the most preferred destinations in 2011. At the same time there was a slight tendency to decrease passenger flow to Moscow destination and increase it on international routes in the overall share of passenger traffic.

18 Russian and international air carriers and among them the seven new partners of JSC VIA — NordStar, Nordavia, RusLine, Singapore Airlines, Uzbekistan Airways, VIM-AVIA, OrenAir -offered service from Vladivostok Airport this year. The cooperation with S7 Airlines got considerably stronger in 2011. The airline launched three new routes from Vladivostok and increased flight frequency in several destinations this year.

New destinations to Hong Kong, Tashkent, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City were opened jointly with the air carriers. The flight frequency in current destinations grew significantly due to extension of airlines’ flight programs.

In general, the growth in airport operation indicators is determined by infrastructure and technology development focusing on increase of the airport attractiveness and strengthening cooperation with the airlines. We cannot but mention the most remarkable events of 2011 that influenced the growth and consolidation of the airport operation: putting into operation of runway-1, acquisition of an approval for regular commercial flights by Boeing 747, expansion of airside vehicles fleet and starting its own ground handling operations.
